In 2017 we pushed back against some of Trump’s most anti-LGBTQ nominees and policies. Trump had recommended Jeff Mateer for a lifetime judiciary appointment, and we mobilized folks into action against the nomination. We surfaced his remarks in a video online, livestreamed a press conference on Capitol Hill and then cut the livestream footage into a viral social video. In a win for the community and HRC, Mateer’s nomination was eventually withdrawn.
